The Blurb
Ellea is a Witch, a mix of both the respected Seers and the feared Tricksters. On top of that, she has also spent her whole life in the shadows of her parents’ infamous attempted destruction.
After Ellea’s frequent and feared vision of the future shifts into something darker and more terrifying than before, she runs to a town that used to be a haven for her as a child.
But things are no longer as they seem. The world of supernaturals is so much more than she thought and after a run in with a mysterious hunter, she finds her and her powers spiraling.
Will the town of Glenover be the place she finally leaves her fears behind and embraces a new future? Or will her powers become destructive and result in her own destruction by the frustratingly handsome hunter?

The Review
Tricky Magic (Revised Edition) is a bold and alluring paranormal romance filled with all manner of supernatural beings, and my first venture into the mind of author L.L. Campbell. It’s a tale of leaving the past behind and embracing a future of unknowns, all while staring into the depths of your darkest nightmares. I was excited to dive into this novel, and I’m so glad I was given an early opportunity to do so. It’s most definitely a promising start to a potentially great series.
The narrative follows two POV characters, Ellea, a rare Trickster/Seer Witch, and Ros, a Demon Witch Princeling. Both powerful in their own right, and both haunted by years past. They have given up all hope of a bright road forward simply because of who they are and what is required of them. Until their paths cross. If the enemies to lovers trope is your thing, you’ll love these two; their budding relationship laced with volatility blooms into one of delicious and tenacious passion. Two words: shadow play…didn’t know I needed it in my life, but eternally grateful to find out I did.
This story reads almost like a slice of life novel with bursts of action injected throughout, subtly immersing readers in a seemingly rich world, but only scraping the surface of everything it has to offer. Mortals and supernaturals live side by side, and there are a lot of species floating about. While I appreciate the grandeur of what Campbell is attempting to build, I found myself needing MORE. I felt there was quite a bit happening behind the scenes, and it would’ve been great to witness things firsthand, rather than be told about it after the fact.
With an incredible cast of secondary characters, a mysterious world waiting to be explored, suspenseful mystery, and healthy doses of body positivity and spice (the second half of the book is 🥵), Tricky Magic promises an exciting adventure ahead. The cliffhanger left me desperately needing to find out what happens next, and I’m excited to see Ellea embrace what she is truly meant to be.
P.S. I loved the Supernatural references – #TeamDean

The Author

I grew up in the spooky parts of Massachusetts but now love in Florida with my forever fiancé Chris, and three furkids. First born Chamonix, the golden child Gatah, and the unexpected child Sasha. I spend my time reading whatever I can and attempting to make things pretty through photography and design.
I always wanted to write but I didn’t know it was an option until I joined this awesome community of writers.
I just want to say thank you to the bookstagram community, my girl gang, and my readers. I’m just starting on this journey and I can’t freaking wait!
