The Blurb
The thrilling sequel to In the Orbit of Sirens
THE WORLD OF KAMARIA WILL NEVER BE THE SAME.
In the aftermath of the brutal slaying of a sacred auk’nai deity, Cade and Nella Castus are taken from their home and brought deep into the wilderness. They must make their way back to civilization, traversing dangerous landscapes as they are pursued relentlessly by their captor—a winged abomination.
As Denton and Eliana search for their missing children, they uncover something that will change all life on Kamaria forever.

Meet The Author

T. A. Bruno grew up in a suburb south of Chicago and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the film industry. Since then, he has brought stories to life for over a decade as a previsualization artist. At home, he is the proud father of two boys and a husband to a wonderful wife. He released his debut novel, In the Orbit of Sirens, amid a global pandemic in 2020, and it has won multiple awards.

Welcome back to Whispers & Wonder, T. A.! Since we already have your official bio, can we have your MC(s) describe you in one sentence?
Thanks for having me back! I’m excited to finally release On the Winds of Quasars to the world. I’ll let Denton give me an intro:
Denton Castus: “T.A? Yeah, he’s that tallish guy with the black hair and beard. His wife’s a really fun person, and his two kids are a riot. Writes a lot. Does movie stuff, too, I hear. Never could figure out what he was talking about, though. Previsual-something or other. Nice dude.”
Does On the Winds of Quasars differ much from its predecessor, In the Orbit of Sirens? Without spoilers, what can we expect?
Quasars takes place 26 years after the events of In the Orbit of Sirens. Sirens was an action-adventure sci-fi that set up the world of Kamaria and the Castus family. Now that we know Kamaria, we have a chance to explore in On the Winds of Quasars. Quasars is a very different kind of novel from Sirens. It’s still sci-fi with bits of fantasy, but this one leans more into a thriller mystery than an epic adventure. The stakes are more personal.
Can you share with us something about The Other Magic that isn’t in the blurb?
There are a few types of Auk’nai living on Kamaria. In Sirens, we were introduced to the auk’nai of Apusticus, who have a particular way of living. In Quasars, we learn about what an Auk’gnell is and how their beliefs are different from an auk’nai’s. I loved exploring their world deeper in this way.

Was there any specific research you’ve done for this story of yours? And if so, did you learn anything really interesting?
Nella Castus, one of the main characters of On the Winds of Quasars, is Deaf. I worked with many people in the Deaf Community to make her a great character to read about. I also brought on a Deaf consultant to give me specific notes for each of her interactions. I learned so much about Deaf Culture and how beautiful ASL is. It was enlightening. Nella rocks, and I really hope readers like following her story.
What do you hope your readers take away from The Song of Kamaria?
I hope readers enjoy this deeper exploration of Kamaria. I want them to feel like they could hop on a ship and visit there. I want to keep them guessing what might happen next, too.
Which was more difficult, writing your debut or its sequel?
Debut, FOR SURE. It was much harder to establish the world and characters of Kamaria than it was to bring them forward. I will say I have enjoyed writing Quasars and the third book more than I enjoyed writing Sirens (and I enjoyed Sirens a whole lot. I write for my own enjoyment and edit for others.) But something about sequels always gave me goosebumps. I like to see characters I know apply their skills in different ways, adjusting to new threats.
Have you read anything awesome lately?
I have! To name a few, Jonathan Nevair’s Goodbye to the Sun was excellent, and I look forward to jumping into its sequel, Jati’s Wager. Sarah Chorn’s Of Honey and Wildfires was a beautiful western with excellent writing. Piranesi by Susanna Clarke is still churning in my head, months after I read it. There’s more too, I’ve read more books this year than I ever have. It’s been an incredible year for reading!
Thank you again for taking the time have a chat, T. A. Tell us what lies ahead for you!
Thanks for having me! As for me, Quasars publishes this week, and I’m looking forward to making some cool marketing trailers for it. Book 3 (title still unannounced) is currently with beta readers. Once that returns, I hop back in to adjust and make it ready for more beta readers (I typically do 2 rounds). But I hope to announce more about book 3 of the Song of Kamaria later this year, once Quasars has had its time in the sunlight. It’ll be an exciting ending!
