Grave Reflection by A. Lawrence

Happy Halloween, everyone! This past week we’ve had a great batch of features spotlighting the recently released Paranormal novella, Grave Reflection over at Storytellers On Tour. Today I’m joined by A. Lawrence, author of the Inhale and Ghost Punch series to have a chat about their new book, what they believe makes for a good story, and some advice for aspiring authors.

I couldn’t say no to this one – I had to give it a read. You can peruse my review of Grave Reflection here. Also, be sure to check out the Tour Encore by the lovely Timy at RockStarlit BookAsylum!

Keep scrolling for more about the author, this ridiculously fun book they’ve written, and to enter the giveaway to win yourself an ebook copy!

The Author

A. LawrenceLawrence has been writing for as long as they can remember. They dabble in a mix of fantasy and supernatural. When they aren’t writing they are harassing their cat, playing a video game with friends, or dabbling in art.

They come from Idaho, where they have spent time being shaped by long roads and abandoned cabins.

Thanks so much for stopping by for a chat, A.! Since we already have your official bio, care to tell us about yourself in ten words or less?

Tired author and witch who loves a spooky aesthetic.

Give us an idea of how Grave Reflection came to fruition.

I yelled “punching ghosts!  Ghost Punch!” at a friend and it became a whole thing.  “Ghost Punch 2! That’s the Spirit!”  Later I still thought the concept of someone having the ability to punch ghosts was a good one (and that ghost punch was still a funny title) so I made a few characters and started writing for NaNoWriMo 2018 and… it all just fell into place.

Can you share with us something about Grave Reflection that isn’t in the blurb?

The third big ghost encounter is my favorite, but the second is the spookiest. And don’t worry about the cat.  The cat will always be okay.

What comes first, the plot or the characters?

The characters, for sure.  I usually don’t even have a plot when I start writing.

What do you think makes a good story?

Something that matters.  An event that changes things irrevocably, even if it’s just the protagonist.  Even if it’s a small thing.

Writing can be a stressful pursuit. Do you have any tips for aspiring authors?

Don’t take yourself too seriously.  Even in your final drafts.  And it’s okay to take a long, long break from anything.  Sometimes that’s exactly what your brain needs to refuel and go again.

Ok, let’s see what kind of person you truly are.

Coffee or Tea?
Coffee.  I love tea, but coffee is my go to

Winter or Summer?
Winter!  I love cold weather and I adore snow

Physical books or Ebooks?
I love a good physical book, but since I like to read while literally rolling around in my bed, ebooks.

Mountains or Oceans?
Mountains!  The ocean is a terrifying, deep void.  Mountains surround you like the land is hugging you.

Beer or Wine?
Neither!

Books or Movies?
It depends.  If I want to be fully immersed in something, then books.  If I want a pleasant background distraction, movies.

Cowboys or Aliens?
Why not cowboy aliens?  Cowboys… IN SPACE

Pie or Cake?
Pie.  I’m not much of a sweets person

Rural or Urban?
Rural.

Work hard or Play hard?
I work hard, then recover by playing soothing, gentle video games.

Thank you again for taking the time have a chat, A.. Tell us what lies ahead for you!

Thank you!  I am working hard on edits for the sequel to Grave Reflection along with the third book in another series.  I’ll be dropping both temporarily to start working on the third book of Ghost Punch for NaNoWriMo.  I’m really excited for where it’s going to take me!
